Sew Much More in Austin

I’ve been quieter than normal here for a couple weeks and that’s because my sweet, dear Lizzy was getting her first annual servicing.  I bought my Babylock Elizabeth last March (Can you believe a year has passed already??) and I was half forced into my (ecstatically happy) purchase because I had basically killed my old starter machine, Hugo, bless his un-greased gears.  Death by sewing… for a sewing machine, I suppose there are worse ways to go?

One of my first worries when I moved to Austin was how I would get Lizzy serviced because I bought her in Los Angeles, so it’s not like I could just take her back to the same store.  Well, I researched the heck out of Austin before I moved here and knew that I would be able to take Lizzy for servicing at Sew Much More because Babylock machines are one of the brands they cater.

Remember the local resources I used to curate in Los Angeles?  Well, it’s kicking off in Austin and we’re starting with Sew Much More!

First, let’s talk machine servicing because that was the purpose of my visit.  I don’t know if it’s just an Austin, Texas thing, but hot diggity dog!  The people are friendly here!!  I know I’m not in Kansas Los Angeles anymore because there is such a sense of community and a welcoming feeling.  They are a busy store (local and family owned) but I received the utmost care when I dropped off my machine as well as when I picked it up.  Aside from general maintenance (cleaning the insides, lubricating all the parts, and realigning), my main concern was that I had somehow (temporarily) broken my automatic needle threader.  I read online that they can become misaligned, so I waited until servicing my machine to get it fixed.

Me:  I mean, heaven forbid I should have to (gasp!) thread my own needle.

Sew Much More:  Well, it’s why you bought the machine, isn’t it?

<happy sigh> They totally get me in all my nerdy ways. </happy sigh>

Their quote for my servicing was also spot on… I didn’t pay more than I was expecting and my machine was ready when they said it would be ready.

Now, let’s talk shopping.  (Insert gleeful clapping.)  NOTIONS.  Like, notions everywhere.  Notions that I NEED.  I will come here to look for notions from now on instead of ordering online.  Their corner of fabric was pretty sweet, too.  If you’re in the market for a quality machine, you’ll find it in this store… and something tells me you’d get a lot of personal attention and training on it, too.

They run regular in-store classes and clubs for various needle arts.  When I dropped off my machine, there were two classes running at the same time (there are two parts to the classroom section of the store).  I love seeing people learning how to sew and learning more advanced skills!  I always sew independently and figure stuff out on my own but you know, I’d consider taking a class here.

Basically, I’m in love with this place.  You can sign up for their newsletter as well, even if you don’t live in Austin (yet)!  Also, they sell these T-shirts, that I must return and purchase, which pretty much explains the meaning of life.
“Sew & Eat & Sleep & Repeat”  <– Umm… YES.
